My favorite Boston Marathon sign of course had to do with Ozempic

The Boston Marathon
I had an excellent experience covering the Boston Marathon yesterday for @purelyboston, where I took footage of people’s signs and videos of the race. I started my race coverage over in Cleveland Circle, and I could see the marathon from the window of the green line, including the first-place winners of the men’s and women’s divisions. It was such a cozy way to watch the race for people who don’t like to get caught up in the midst of all of the crowds. I am also interested to learn why the Boston Marathon is as big as it is, as yesterday saw over 30,000 runners. Why is this race more of a big deal than the New York City Marathon? This might be something I have to look into.
The city was just absolutely electric along the 26.2-mile route, and it was fun experiencing the different atmospheres along the route. The signs were incredibly poignant and creative, as well. Check out the reel of all my sign footage below! For anyone who hasn’t been to the Boston Marathon, I highly recommend going at least once in your life. This was my first one I have ever attended!

Boston’s last DVD rental store sounds like such a gem.
I was curious to see who was renting movies, still, as many don’t even own a DVD player. It’s pretty cool that the space runs on a monthly subscription model with three different tiers depending on the number of movies customers check out, and gives them access to subscriber-only events. It also has a cafe, which means I will have to check it out for a cafe review one of these days!
The 150 most influential Bostonites list seems a little out of touch if you ask me.
First off, I would have been able to guess at like half of the first ten people on the list, not because I find them particularly influential, but because if you are the governor of Massachusetts or the mayor of Boston, I would hope you have a little bit of clout. It would have been cool to see some younger people doing innovative new things on the list, rather than just members of Boston’s elite establishment.
Massachusetts’ last Ben Franklin store is closing this summer.
The Chatham store has been struggling with the rising popularity of online shopping and the opening of Ocean State Job Lots nearby. I didn’t realize Ben Franklin stores were a national chain and were one of the first retailers to begin utilizing franchises. This location is also believed to be the last franchise in New England.
A former bed-and-breakfast in a lighthouse on an island on the Taunton River is on sale.
If I had $1.1M lying around, I would surely spend it on this and make a whole retreat for Boston boaters to day-drink, and anchor for the day, and then when they can’t drive home, they can stay at my lighthouse hotel!
New Englanders, the moment we have all been waiting for: our very own guide to visiting Bermuda.
Any ideas on what makes these recommendations specific to New Englanders? I did love Bermuda when I visited, I hung out with the island’s best bartender, which I thought was funny.
Check out the big updates from the first day of Karen Read’s retrial.
The day was fileld with testimony and protesters and ended with a man charged with trespassing for being within the courthouse’s “buffer zone.”
Meet the youngest Boston Marathon runner.
This girl is ready for a life of success, marking her 18th birthday with a marathon run. I can ensure you that is not what I did for my 18th birthday. I AM a Catholic school girl…
What to do this week:
Market Street in Lynnfield is having mini golf after dark on Thursday night, which will be accompanied by a beer garden hosted by Notch Brewing and live music! I would definitely check this out if I didn’t have to work.
Every Thursday, ICA Boston has free admission. Not only that, the space has a waterfront wine and coffee bar. Perfect for watching the sunset!
If you have time for a day trip this week, I have been blown away by this “Hobbit house” in Richmond, Rhode Island. How dreamy is this place?
Tulip Mania reopens tomorrow at the Garden at Elm Bank in Wellesley. Tickets are on sale now, and are currently available for dates through May 4.
No cafe review today.
I had to take my dog, Moose, to the vet, but here is a cute photo of him to hold you over.
That’s all from me today, massholes. I hope you liked this edition of the Daily Bean. Please share with your friends and drop me a note if you have anything to share that I should include in the newsletter or suggestions on what I should cover! And if you liked it, please share with a friend!
Do you know if you can visit the hobbit house for free or is there a fee for entry? Would definitely love to check it out!
